Heron Engineering, as a member of the consortium, is engaged in ESA CTP : “Development of a Large Angle Flexible Pivot for Science Application”. Flexible pivots are dedicated to pointing and scanning space mechanisms. Typical applications are payload scientific instruments and inter-satellite communication systems. With the development of high accuracy scanners there is more demand of flexible pivot with higher precision.
The goal is to develop a Large Angle Flexible Pivot, which will overcome the drawbacks such as stress corrosion cracking, fatigue, quality matters, etc, of earlier studies and investigate the consequences of the limited angular stroke, the shifting of the pivot center, loads endurance and lifetime.
Heron Engineering participates in the design and analysis (preliminary and detailed) of the pivot, by performing the following Analysis:

Fatigue and Damage Tolerance
